Director, Employee Compliance
Job Description:
The Director of Employee Compliance has primary responsibility for the oversight and execution of core employee relations functions, programs, and services, and for evaluating, directing, and overseeing people-related policies and compliance. The Employee Relations Director advises management on performance issues and corrective action; engages in conflict resolution; investigates privacy, discrimination and misconduct complaints; advises on accommodations; audits policies, manages risk and compliance; and assists with other matters requiring advanced subject matter expertise in employment practices. The Director establishes best practices and standard operating procedures for the core employee relations functions and ensures accountability for exceptional execution and responsive delivery consistent with the highest professional standards.
Responsibilities:
- Design and implement policies, procedures, and best practice processes for conducting and documenting investigations, corrective actions, and training materials to ensure appropriate and consistent implementation in accordance with best practices
- Proactively identify and report on trends impacting organizational risk, employee engagement, and turnover, and recommend policy and practice changes and training to improve trends and effectuate positive change
- Develop training content on employment practices and deliver content as a subject matter expert.
- Collaborate with key stakeholders including the Legal team, the People team and leadership across our technology, commercial and support teams.
- Handle individual employee relations matters, and policy reviews
- Create needed guidelines and policies partnering with our Legal team where appropriate
- Proactively participate in the People team, be a collaborative partner with the HR Centers of Excellence, and model a transformational approach to our People team service delivery model
- Support initiatives including the development of tools, processes and/or learning programs for employees and managers that improve compliance, increase self-serve capability, enhance the People team’s effectiveness and encourage practices/behavior and processes consistent with Magic Leap’s workplace policies and values
- Maintain deep expertise in employee relations, including Equal Employment Opportunity, affirmative action, FLSA and FLMA requirements
Qualifications:
- 15+ years experience in US employment law and regulatory requirements typically achieved through progressive HR or legal experience
- Minimum undergraduate degree; postgraduate degree and/or professional licensing (J.D.) preferred
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Consulting orientation with strong impact and influence and listening, understanding and responding skills
- Critical and strategic thinking ability and translation to action
- Ability to seamlessly identify issues and patterns and proactively address as needed
- Achievement motivation, adaptability, teamwork and collaboration
- Prior demonstrated success in building and implementing employee relations foundational processes in a highly complex and matrixed organization

- Exceptional oral and written communication skills
Education:
- Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources or a related field preferred.
- Master’s degree preferred.
- BS/BA degree required, with at least 12 years of relevant experience, focused on employee relations or employment law. A Master's or JD is strongly preferred.
